Alicia’s work is so needed in this world! And I couldn’t help but wonder if someday she’ll extend her power voice work beyond midlife into the crone years. My mom just turned 80 and I’ve noticed her diaphragm strength and voice have become weaker. A strong, confident Leo, she used to always command a room but aging has whittled away that confidence. I can only imagine how psychologically profound it is for an aging woman (and her community!) to know the power of her voice (physically and metaphorically) and to exercise that in her golden years.
I feel like everything she's teaching must have application beyond midlife. If it could help me during a fragile recovery, it could certainly be of help as we age and our confidence wanes. :)
I love all the mid-life talk that is happening now and that I missed. My friends and I just powered through peri-menopause and menopause like storm troopers. Sure we talked about hot flashes and looking in the mirror and seeing dry lifeless skin, but holy shit, how and why did this happen? My ob-gyn told me he could tell all the menopausal women in his waiting room by their complexion. HA! BUT WHAT TO DO ? No wise words from him. I'm telling you lovelies that mid-life is a cake walk , the real challenge and hell is on the other side. There needs to be more writing on this as it is coming and suddenly you wake up with an empty house , retired, and the dreaded now what? Friends die or are sick and also falling down. Emptiness is the sick feeling in the pit of your stomach before you attempt getting out of bed. Which can be difficult. This is the real problem for women. Rejoice in the middle my dearests. Plan with diligence for the next part because "it's the end of the world as you know it." Let's talk about AFTER the middle more because it's coming faster than you can imagine. And I haven't even talked about sex!
Gail, thanks for this bracing tonic of a comment! Your obgyn sounds like kind of a dick, by the way. But more importantly, if you'd like to write an essay about sex as you experience it during this stage of your life, I'd love to look at it for possible publication on Womancake Magazine: https://www.womancake.com/ Email me here: womancakemag@gmail.com
Wow! So many inspiring takeaways from this empowering interview. I love the idea of seeing ourselves as our own hometown. With everything that’s happening in the collective, it’s easy to forget the value of our internal resources and the experiences we bring to the table. I admire the extensive work Alicia is doing to help people tap their confidence and embrace their personal power and I look forward to checking out her magazine. Thanks for sharing this conversation!
Thanks so much, Christa! I'm glad you found my experiences helpful. The more we keep returning to our inner strengths, and cultivating new ones, the stronger we will be collectively as a force in society. I'm actually excited to see what we can do as so many of us will be in menopause in the coming years!
It's so easy to forget everything we bring and are at this stage of the game--we have all the skills, knowledge, expertise, and wisdom to tackle most anything. We just have to keep remembering and reminding each other. 💜
🎉 YES to this statement: "I believe that midlife women can and should develop robust self-respect. The world is often shitty to us, but it actually needs us, our wisdom and clarity, and we must be strong enough inside to stand up and meet that challenge."
I completely believe this, and it reflects what I see every day when I train big teams in corporate America: those companies have a powerful resource that they hardly ever tap into, it's all the women over 40 who are running every detail of everything, doing it better than anyone else, and getting almost no credit for their work. No one else can see what they see or do what they do.

Yay Alicia!
Ha, thanks! It was an honor :)

And how... the world "actually needs us, our wisdom and clarity" 👏👏👏
