Fellow Empresses,
Happy International Women’s Day—we think this should be every day. Maybe a billion of us in menopause by 2025 will ultimately get their attention. Know that we celebrate your bravery, wit, and wisdom always.
Scroll ahead if you’ve heard this story before…
I never thought perimenopause at age 40 would manifest the way it did.
I’d told my OB/GYN, "When the time comes, just write me a script for Eileen Fisher, some lube, and a little Fosamax, and off I go."
It did NOT involve me having a grand mal seizure on the street in New York City and a gaggle of good Samaritans hauling me into a funeral home only to wake up to an indignant Funeral Director whisper-shouting, “You can't bring her in here like this. She doesn't have an appointment!”
And me going, “OK, first, NOT dead YET... just my brain on perimenopause and second, appointment???”
But midlife takes on different forms for every woman, which is why I founded The Empress.
So hang on to your crowns, people... because we're about to dive into The Empress's recent virtual salon on "The Science of Thriving in Midlife," and let me tell you, it was a ride. Led by the one and only Meredith Messenger of By Design Systems, this event promised radical self-acceptance and free-flowing discussion. And boy, did it deliver...
Meredith is amazing. Her insights into neuroscience, design thinking, operating systems, and personal growth are unparalleled. But when you gather a bunch of mid-lifers in a virtual room, things are bound to get a little... messy.
But hey, amidst the revelry, there were moments of brilliance. Meredith managed to wrangle the conversation back on track with her trademark wit and wisdom. We laughed, we had vulnerable moments and we nodded knowingly as she dropped truth bombs about navigating this crazy heroine’s journey called midlife.
And, as promised: All registrants were upgraded to receive six months of free paid subscriber access. Huzzah! You heard that right. You can now relive the merriment (and maybe even spot yourself in the background) with the Zoom recording of the session. And, who knows, maybe you'll pick up some nuggets of wisdom that got lost in all the conversation the first time around.
Now, full disclosure: I was sipping on Olipop prebiotic non-alcoholic soda with plant fiber throughout the event, and let me tell you, it was not the highlight of the evening. In fact, I highly do NOT recommend it. But hey, if you're into that sort of thing, more power to you.
What was the highlight of the night was the women connecting! And just so you know… We are already planning our next virtual salon (Date TBD), and this one's juicy! We're talking with one of Oprah's favorite midlife OB/GYNs, Dr. Heather Bartos, on the topic of Integrative Approaches to Peri/menopause and the Latest in Non-Hormonal Treatment Options. So stay tuned!
So, there you have it, ladies. The Empress's first virtual salon: a mélange of slight chaos, Design Thinking, plus curiosity coupled with some radical self-acceptance, and questionable beverage choices. But in the end, isn't that what midlife is all about? (Apart from the 40+ symptoms and the decade-long multi-systems, full-body transformation.) We are all just wanderers and heroines here… but we have agency!
Upgrade now to access the session, see further takeaways, and enjoy additional VIP Empress content, our book club, live events, etc.
