YES to supporting each other!! Somewhere in 7th grade, I wrongly learned that it was always a competition with my "friends." Looking back, I'd call those "frenemies" instead of friendships, and they led to a lot of tears back in the day. Today I'm grateful for the few, dear friends that I have, even though we are all bombarded with work and kids and responsibilities that make finding time for friendships challenging. Regardless, we are all better as a collective menopausal group when we lift each other up! Starting our own micro economy is enticing. What about a resource list of women owned business/companies? I know that would be a lot of extra work, but just thinking out loud... And sorry I missed the last meeting! <3
Time for this mid-life (Okay - old) trans feminine person (woman? - aghh - I don't know) to put their (her?) money where their (her?) mouth is. For those whom I haven't yet met, this is my awkward form of an intro.
I promise to honor this space.
Alisa, thank you for always making me feel welcome.
Grateful to have been a part of that tiny but mighty group! Still looking for my next adventure, but I did get my masterβs finished! WOOO! I have some ideas about opening KMJ Consulting - doing leadership consulting for companies. Also working on coming up with a good name for a genealogy company.
Huzzah!!! Congratulations on finishing your Masters!!! You must feel like you've climbed Everest! When you're ready, let us know... Alicia and I are going to start putting together a directory of of midlife women-owned businesses so we can do this! When I think genealogy --I think Matrilineal but also the other end of the spectrum... Succession, lol... Successive???
Thank you, and thanks for getting the creativity ball rollingβ¦ I already have KMJ Photography, and will soon have KMJ Consulting, but KMJ Genealogy just doesnβt have a ring to it. You can find my photography at kmjphotography.com
Sounds like it was a wonderful time and sorry I missed it, Alisa. I've always put women-owned/everything first whenever possible. All my doctors? Women. CPAs? Women. Artists I'm saving to buy from? Women. Liquor store I get my lottery tix and organic red wine from? It's Valerie's (and, yes, she owns it with her husband, but I met her first, so I say it's hers, and her hubs is a sweetheart). Same as my friend's boutique, where she puts women artists/businesses first. I haven't been lucky in finding a woman-owned mechanic/tire shop or businesses for certain repairs, but I think that will be changing. Before, they would hide as the owners. Now, they need to be front and center. This is great. Alisa. xo
This is awesome of you and we would have loooooooooved to have you there, but know you've got your workshops on Saturday as well (which have been a lifesaver for yours truly). So interesting that they would hide as the owners, but I get it from a cred perspective. I think also focusing on midlife women owners is especially key--b/c I see a great deal of 30-year-old founders, but I want to make sure we're inclusive of the demo who needs support the most. xoxo
I'm sorry I missed this! Maybe we could do a future co-post filled with links to midlife women's businesses and services? For example, I'm a huge fan of this gorgeous, hand-made clothing by a local company in my hometown. The owner is an extraordinary woman who was light-years ahead of everyone in terms of working with local artisans in developing countries to produce the cotton, silk, and other things used in the garments: https://maiwa.com/collections/all-clothing
Yes! Let's do a co-post directory and do all our faves but also a call for participants around the world? And let's get H (if she has bandwidth) to run through her IG since that's where she's most active? Just a coffee thought.

It's a great idea! Alicia was talking about it as well, and we just had someone volunteer to do it! π Stay tuned!!!
Will do!! : D

Agreed. I made sure my GYN was over 50. If you haven't had a hot flash, we don't have much to discuss. (And thank you! β€οΈ). xo
Lol... Me too!!! β€οΈ

YAZZZZ let's talk about this in our Friday Zoom, send us the calendar invite?
Bravo! Yes, we need to harness the power of the Empresses asap!
Can hardly believe the 80% poverty stat; thatβs nuts.
It's an ElleVest stat... I was floored!
