Menopause is a full-systems update. If you were Apple or Google, there’d be a launch event like no other... 😂
This week's newsletter is brought to you by our friends at Winona, FDA-approved, doctor-prescribed menopause care for women, backed by science, and shipped directly to your door.
Fellow Empresses, How the hell are you? Happy World Menopause Month…
I know there’s an unspeakable amount of darkness in the world at the moment, but I just wanted to take a few minutes to offer up some levity and acknowledge the progress we are actually seeing across our little corner of the web—so many diverse voices, so much rigorous reporting, folks calling out what works, and also what really doesn’t. Yes, we get it wrong at times, others we get it right. Most of all, women are talking to each other so much more. On social, on Substack, on so many GREAT live panels, on retreats, and in a whole new genre of literature. And we’re speaking up… with the people who make our haircare, our skincare, our down-there care as well as our sleepwear, and workwear. We’re finally talking to our doctors, our co-workers, our bosses, and our legislators… all of which is great. Because when midlife women thrive… communities thrive, businesses thrive, and economies thrive. And not to be Jobo the peezer here, calling out for a group hug, but midlife women deserve better narratives, more rigorous science, and social policies that serve our unique peri/menopausal journeys… so here’s to that! (clinks bolly glasses)
A big thank you to Monica Torres of HuffPost for featuring The Empress and why we celebrate perimenopause as a rite of passage in a woman’s life.
The Empress Age is that highly generative, creative, liminal phase between the exhaustion of the ‘Mother’ and the ennui of the ‘Crone’ phases. There’s a great deal of power in this messy middle that we’re only just beginning to see manifest. It’s worth celebrating. If you were Apple, there’d be a launch event like no other...
We covered everything from the Bridgerton dresses (which, if you’re dealing in hoop skirts, can be quite hazardous to knickknacks and china) to how much I loved (like Cleo Wade) handwriting our collaborative oath to support each other. Dempsey and Carroll came in handy for this.
We discussed the hurdles of getting our doctors to even discuss HRT and the more recent options available through telehealth platforms like Winona. A friend of mine was an affiliate and able to connect us with resources, webinars, and other women who had undertaken different hormonal and non-hormonal journeys—so this was key. Also, just sharing different perimenopausal life hacks and knowing that your symptoms are real is hugely validating.
Of course, I could not forgo…
So, it was a good bonding rite… even if we didn’t go full-on uterus cake. 😂
But stay with us, we’ve got a whole bunch of thoughts on the new canon of amazing midlife women’s literature—with some incredible anthologies coming out, updates on HRT safety, brain health, the importance of menopause acceptance in the workplace, and a hilarious (but instructive) new series called The Empress Menopausal Gut Check… coming soon—in partnership with some of our favorite women from XO / Jacqui.
Don’t press that dial… or, wait, DO! And share away! Until next time, I remain…
Yours in Grandeur & Deep Sh*t,

Congrats on the Huff Post mention! You are my meno guru. And if we dissect the word, why is "pause" in there? What am I pausing? Nothing is on hold. It's an end of being an egg making factory but that's it. Meno-end? Meno-begin-a-new-and-improved-life?
